As you have probably guessed by his name Mr. Magoo is blind. His hearing is good, but he can not see at all. He doesn't let this slow him down though. He is a happy easy going guy who adapts very quickly to his environment. He does tend to run into things, but he just bounces off and keeps on going. We are working with him to help him hone his hearing and sense of smell to help him navigate, but this is really more fine tuning than anything else. He is a really nice little guy. The folks that surrendered him to us really were heartbroken about it. But they had cats and he is just not good with cats. They found him abandoned in a busy parking lot in Portland. At first they thought he was just lost. They tried hard to find his owners, and when it became clear he was abandoned rather than lost, they had grown so attached to him they tried to keep him. But it became clear his issues with cats was going to be a deal breaker. So they contacted us and brought him here.

Magoo is a doll and someone is going to consider themselves very lucky to get him. He is well behaved, fully housebroken, very sweet, and even has some basic training. He is smart and fairly easy to train, which makes sense as he really wants to please. His rump hits the ground so fast on a sit command you sometimes wonder if it doesn't hurt, and you can see how proud he is of himself for knowing how to sit on command..

Update 9/26/07 - Magoo went in for eye surgery last week. We had both eyes removed (called enucleation). Neither eye was functional and they were both bothering him, so we felt it best to just get them removed. The surgery was performed at OSU's Vet school as part of a program they have where they donate surgeries to shelters and rescues. They were great to work with and are Magoo's new heroes. He is recovering well and really hasn't missed a beat. Of course the eyes never did work so he hasn't really lost anything by their removal, other than some discomfort. Magoo is such a sweet dog, so happy and outgoing, and so well behaved. He really is an exceptional dog. The folks at OSU fell in love with him. Of course we knew they would. All you have to do is spend some time with him.

Update 2/08 - Magoo was adopted but after 2 months was returned to us, so he is available again. He had issues with one of the family members, a 13 yr old girl who was only there on weekends. His adoptive parents were heartbroken about having to return him.
