We
were contacted by an ID rescue about Lokai. We have worked with this
rescue before to rescue Danes from their local shelter. The last time
it was Cecily they contacted us about. Lokai was found stray with minor
ear infections and some scaring on her left front and left shoulder. It
is clear she has not had a lot of quality care from humans, and has probably
had some abuse. She is still very loving and people oriented, but she
gets scared easily and either runs away or freezes in place. She has no
house manners and no sense of working with people, but she learns
fairly easily, mostly because she is so eager to please.
Lokai
is named after a character in an original Star Trek episode where the
character is half black and half white. One look at Lokai's picture and
that was instantly her name. She is a very sweet
girl and will settle in to the right home to be a fantastic companion.
But she is big, she lacks much training or house manners (we are
working on this, but this is something her new home will have to work
on) and tends to get afraid and loose focus. She is not used to limits
or a lot of human attention so she gets overly excited by any signs of
affection and it is difficult to settle her down again without scaring
her. All of this is easily dealt with given just a little love,
consistency, and clear rules. And she is so eager to please that she
will gladly do whatever you want, once she figures out what it is.
Lokai came to us underweight. We've been told she was even thinner when
she was picked up stray. Her coat is dull and dirty brown. We aren't
sure at this point if she carries the dilute brown gene or if this is
just a sign of malnutrition. We will see if her coat glosses up and
turns black, or if it stays brownish. She is a very striking dog with
her half and half face and coloring. Certainly not a show dog, but very
striking. And her sweet personality certainly shines through.
We will post additional photos of Lokai as time goes by, so check
back often.
