- Temperament
- Lady is a loving, sweet dog with some significant fear issues. She is
conflicted about strangers but is getting much better. She is not a dog
for the average home as she has snapped at people and likely will do so
again.
We
aren't really sure of Lady's past. The folks who surrendered her really
seemed to love her, and she them. However she shows classic signs of
abuse and is a fearful, conflicted dog who certain might bite if she
feels she has no other option. She snarled, snapped and grabbed me
several times when she first got here, but she never bit down or even
came close to breaking skin. Her two biggest triggers are touching her
head or grabbing her by the collar. Even though she now trsust and
loves me, she still displas extreme submission now and again,
especially when going through doors. Once she trusts you she is very
affectionate and if scared will do whatever she can to avoid conflict.
Even when scared to the point of snapping, she is very careful not to
hurt you. Poor girl has obviuously had a hard time. She is a bit
dominant with other dogs sometimes but mostly she is just overly
enthusiastic at first. She is able to adjust her play style to suit the
needs of other individual dogs. She is super gentle and careful with
puppies, has adjusted her play style to suit the blind dogs, and plays
really rough with those who are comfortable with that. She loves to
sleep on the bed with me and cuddle as close as possible. Obviously
Lady is not for most people. She has a home here with us as long as she
needs it. If we happen to find that magic person or family that can
deal with her rather serious issues and needs, we will consdier
placement, but Lady is no a plug and play dog and can never be trusted
around strangers or even casual aquaintances. If you have experience
with reactive Danes and feel Lady might be a good fit with your
lifestyle and home, please feel free to apply to adopt her, but
understand that we are going to be very selective in any applicants and
will likely not even consider most homes. Most rescue wouldn't even
consider placing a dog like Lady, and rightly so. However we do a lot
of rehab work with dogs like Lady and have been able to successfully
place a number of such dogs. It takes a lot of work and just the right
home and circumstances, but it does happen every now and then. So we
will keep Lady listed and available, as part of our Sanctuary program,
but she is definitely not for most applicants.
We will post additional photos of Lady as time goes by, so check
back often.
